"High For This (The Weeknd Cover)" by Ellie Goulding

High For This (The Weeknd Cover) by Ellie Goulding

Don’t be scared, I’m right here
Even though, you don’t roll
Trust me boy, you wanna be high for this

My ears yearn for Ellie Goulding. It has been 2 years since she released Lights and it’s about time that she tease us with some new material. This rework of The Weeknd’s High For This from House of Balloons features Goulding’s signature airy vocals and production from Xaphoon Jones. I know Ellie Goulding is set out to release a new record this year and this track will keep us warm enough until it comes out.

No Church In The Wild by Kanye West x Jay-Z

What’s a God to a non-believer who don’t believe in anything?
Will he make it out alive? Alright, alright, no church in the wild

Directed by Romain Gavras (M.I.A.’s Bad Girl/Born Free), No Church In The Wild depicts the length human beings would go to if pushed to the extremes.

"1991" by Azealia Banks

1991 by Azealia Banks

I make hits motherfucker, I never do it for free.

I think I’ve watched Paris, Je T’aime way too many times because I swear the intro in Azealia Banks’ 1991 was from 14e arrondissement by Alexander Payne, the last vignette featuring a lonely American tourist in France.

With a blazing introduction, 1991 fires up with a 90s house inspired beat and Azealia’s slick verses sprinkled with hooks & expletives in the right places. The cleverly produced track was by Machinedrum who also worked on Azealia’s 212. Their collaboration is quite similar to Missy Elliott’s work with Timbaland which no doubt resulted to numerous banging hits. If you take some time to devour Azealia Banks’ soundcloud and her latest EP, 1991, it’s obvious that she’s heading to that direction.

"Silk" by Giselle

Silk by Giselle Roselli

you turn my sorrow into silk

You may have probably heard of Giselle Rosselli during her featurette in Flight Facilities’ Crave You back in 2010. Her accordion-filled music, They Stay Down Deep was also featured in Skins during a Freffy scene. The Australian singer-songwriter is definitely getting busy kickstarting her career and it’s only a matter of time before this gem gets signed because clearly the world needs to hear her music.

"Spectrum (Calvin Harris Mix)" by Florence + The Machine

Spectrum (Calvin Harris Remix) by Florence + The Machine

We are shining
And we will never be afraid again

I’m not big on Florence + The Machine remixes because some of her songs are meant to be untouched. I make a few exceptions especially in the case of Calvin Harris. I have so much respect for the guy, his talent in making radio-friendly production has been garnering attention. Just dropping some of his recent works — Rihanna’s Where Have You Been and Cheryl Cole’s Call My Name. It’s no surprise that he turned this Florence track into a bouncy dance anthem. SAY MY NAMEEEE!

"That Darkness" by Hot Bodies In Motion

That Darkness by Hot Bodies In Motion

Darkness is inside of you, I hope you can find everything in yourself

You know that you’re bound for greatness with a slight hint of naughtiness when you’re clicking a video with that includes HOT BODIES IN MOTION in the title. These four lads from Seattle are out to make your hips shake with their irresistibly funky tune. To be more direct, here’s a description of their sound straight from their treasure trove aka their soundcloud page:

Baby-makin’ mammal funk, laced with old-school blues roots—-Hot Bodies acknowledges that it’s dangerous to put this much sexy into one sound.

Watch them perform this song live above, hi to the cute drummer. Call me, maybe?

"Move In The Right Direction" by Gossip

Move In The Right Direction by Gossip

so I hold back tears
move in the right direction
face my fears
move in the right direction

The Gossip may have changed their sound over the years from indie rock edging on punk to a fusion of rock and electronica. One thing hasn’t changed is my love for Beth Ditto, lead singer for Gossip. I love everything she stands for especially her stance on plus sized women. Lately, I’ve been listening to their new record, Joyful Noise, and most of the tracks are very suited to my current situation. So I thank Beth Ditto for making motivational songs such as Move In The Right Direction. God knows we all need a sense of what were heading into.
