Foster The People (Live In Manila, October 6, 2012)
Sometimes, if I wish for it hard enough, it comes true just not exactly the way I wanted it but the universe comes through with it any way. Earlier this year, I saw that Foster The People was playing at Gibson Amphitheatre, Universal City this June. I really wanted to go but time won’t permit me so I said to myself, another time then like all the other artists I wanted to see such as Kimbra and Florence + The Machine. Do I regret missing them? Non, je ne regrette rien!
I eventually got to see the trio from Los Angeles which I’m sure everyone is familiar with. Last night was truly spectacular and amazing. I enjoyed seeing Mark Foster’s eclectic dance moves and at one point pushing over the keyboard. The crowd was mimicking Mark’s energy and everyone was vibing off their music and enthusiasm. Every song started slow making sure to build a momentum and then they would move on to the next track with such smoothness. Everyone was on their feet the whole time disregarding their chairs, waving their glow sticks in tune with Mark Pontius’ drum beats and occasionally capturing the moment with their phones and cameras. I took down the setlist on my phone so I could share it with you guys and hopefully recreate the moment.

Frivolous Life Featuring Marcus Azon by YesYou
So I’m backed by the silver of a frivolous life
With no one by my side
There is something about ohhs that makes a song so undeniably catchy. YesYou, a production duo from Brisbane, has the right ingredients to an excellent indie pop song = accentuated singing with enough repetition, slightly cryptic lyrics and a synth-filled production. Not bad at all for a lazy Sunday.

Clockwork Horrors by Dracula Palms
I said alright yeah. Move like you don’t care. I said twist and shout to the clockwork horrors.
I think I’ve been yearning for that classic MGMT sound that they didn’t deliver on their sophomore release. Good thing we have bands from the down under to provide us with that sound we’ve craving for these past years. Clockwork Horrors sounds exactly like Electric Feel sung in Mark Foster’s voice. I’m not sure if having the same tune as the chorus and break of Electric Feel is a great thing or a clever rip off. The band redeems themselves with the Stanley Kubrick’s Clockwork Orange reference.

Warrior by Kimbra x Mark Foster x A-Trak
Another fantastic collaboration from Converse & Journeys. To match their spring collection, they commissioned Kimbra (that chick from Gotye’s Somebody That I Used To Know). Mark Foster (lead singer of Foster The People) & A-Trak (one half of Duck Sauce) to make this spring anthem. With past anthems from Converse like My Drive Thru (Santigold x Pharrell x Julian Casablancas) & All Summer (Kid Cudi x Best Coast x Rostam), this track is going to be a sure hit. Also, free download if you click the link above.
HAZY DAYS
For those days when all you want to do is sit around and do nothing. Let your mind drift off with this carefree music. This mix is not entirely filled with lo-fi stuff and I didn’t pay much attention to the arrangement of the tracks so it’s best that you put it in shuffle to maximize your enjoyment. Anyway, this is for my friend, PH.
