U Got The Power (Monsieur Adi Remix) by Swiss Lips (Nu-Disco)

All things are going against you,
we’ll fight them out in the avenues

Have you ever encountered a track that automatically fits your situation? This is it for me. Swiss Lips’ U Got The Power came at a time when I needed it. Providing affirmation that everything will be alright and even though it seems that the universe is against you, it’s not the end of it. There are good things coming and finding this track maybe one of it.

Foster The People (Live In Manila, October 6, 2012)

Sometimes, if I wish for it hard enough, it comes true just not exactly the way I wanted it but the universe comes through with it any way. Earlier this year, I saw that Foster The People was playing at Gibson Amphitheatre, Universal City this June. I really wanted to go but time won’t permit me so I said to myself, another time then like all the other artists I wanted to see such as Kimbra and Florence + The Machine. Do I regret missing them? Non, je ne regrette rien!

I eventually got to see the trio from Los Angeles which I’m sure everyone is familiar with. Last night was truly spectacular and amazing. I enjoyed seeing Mark Foster’s eclectic dance moves and at one point pushing over the keyboard. The crowd was mimicking Mark’s energy and everyone was vibing off their music and enthusiasm. Every song started slow making sure to build a momentum and then they would move on to the next track with such smoothness. Everyone was on their feet the whole time disregarding their chairs, waving their glow sticks in tune with Mark Pontius’ drum beats and occasionally capturing the moment with their phones and cameras. I took down the setlist on my phone so I could share it with you guys and hopefully recreate the moment.

1. Miss You
2. Life on the Nickel
3. Houdini
4. Broken Jaw
5. I Would Do Anything for You
6. Waste
7. Love
8. Call It What You Want
9. Don’t Stop (Color on the Walls)
10. Warrant
11. Helena Beat
12. Ruby (such a lovely song for single mothers)
13. Pumped Up Kicks

Universe, if you’re ready I have a long list of artists I want to see live. Allons-y!!!

Frivolous Life Featuring Marcus Azon by YesYou

So I’m backed by the silver of a frivolous life
With no one by my side

There is something about ohhs that makes a song so undeniably catchy. YesYou, a production duo from Brisbane, has the right ingredients to an excellent indie pop song = accentuated singing with enough repetition, slightly cryptic lyrics and a synth-filled production. Not bad at all for a lazy Sunday.

Spot YesYou on Soundcloud, Facebook and their website.

"Clockwork Horrors" by Dracula Palms

Clockwork Horrors by Dracula Palms

I said alright yeah. Move like you don’t care. I said twist and shout to the clockwork horrors.

I think I’ve been yearning for that classic MGMT sound that they didn’t deliver on their sophomore release. Good thing we have bands from the down under to provide us with that sound we’ve craving for these past years. Clockwork Horrors sounds exactly like Electric Feel sung in Mark Foster’s voice. I’m not sure if having the same tune as the chorus and break of Electric Feel is a great thing or a clever rip off. The band redeems themselves with the Stanley Kubrick’s Clockwork Orange reference.

Weekend Video Digest

  • Electra Heart has been on repeat this week and I’m really digging this acoustic version of Marina & The Diamonds’ Starring Role which is included in the Primadonna EP. I’m a massive Marina fan and I’m so glad that her songs are flexible and are both enjoyable in the original and stripped down version.
  • I embarrassingly played Nicki Minaj’s Starship more than 5 times when I was doing my laundry this morning after watching this adorable cover by Sophie Grace & Rosie (those British girls from Ellen). Coincidentally, Nicki Minaj also released an overwhelming official video for that. So much bikini and neon going on in that video.
  • Completely impressed with the music video of Foster The People’s Houdini. The concept was really clever and I can’t help but notice that it had some elements from a viral video called Matrix Ping Pong. With one day left from their concert at The El Rey Theatre, Foster The People encountered a misfortune by getting killed during a rehearsal. Their management hired puppeteers dressed in black to emulate the band and eventually fooled the crowd that they are still alive. My favorite moment was when they danced altogether a la *NSYNC’s It’s Gonna Be Me (I just really had to mention that, didn’t I?)

Warrior by Kimbra x Mark Foster x A-Trak

Another fantastic collaboration from Converse & Journeys. To match their spring collection, they commissioned Kimbra (that chick from Gotye’s Somebody That I Used To Know). Mark Foster (lead singer of Foster The People) & A-Trak (one half of Duck Sauce) to make this spring anthem. With past anthems from Converse like My Drive Thru (Santigold x Pharrell x Julian Casablancas) & All Summer (Kid Cudi x Best Coast x Rostam), this track is going to be a sure hit. Also, free download if you click the link above.
