Don’t Save Me by Haim
And if I had to beg for your love
will it ever be enough?
I seriously can’t get enough of these sisters from Los Angeles. Haim is like a culture developed overtime to be awesome and now they are ready for mass consumption. Whenever I listen to them an undeniable delight comes over me, it must be their 80s sounding tune that brings back so many happy memories. So if you’re feeling a little nostalgic or just in need of some happy tunes this it. Press play, please.
Watch Haim tear up the court below. Also, notice how the video is reminiscent of Britney Spears’ Baby, One More Time.
The Only Place by Best Coast (Music Video)
We wake up with the sun in our eyes
It’s no surprise that we get so much done
This is tomfoolery at its finest and you can only expect that from Californians’ Best Coast. Everything about this video just made me miss LA more. It’s nice to be reminded of it once in a while.
Beat The Heat!
Where I come from, summer is all year long. This year’s summer is probably one of the hottest and I’m sure I’m not the only one who’s incessantly annoyed by the heat combined with extreme humidity. To combat this sauna-like feeling, I made a mix I can cool off to and a fresh batch of margarita.
Check out my previous mixes — Summer Lovin’ & Endless Summer, Endless Youth. Here’s to a summer of roadtrips, flings and beaches.

P.S. I know it’s Spring elsewhere but there’s no harm in enjoying a summer mix this time of the year. Also, Best Coast’s The Only Place made me miss California even more. Photo taken around Los Angeles.
Soldier On
This little mix has been a musical therapy for me these past few weeks. I’m slightly broken-hearted that my extended stay in a place that I really want to live in has come to an end. It sucks because I’ve grown accustomed to the wonderful things it offered. I was hoping this mix would help me bring myself back to the earthly (mundane?) life in the third-world. I asked my friend who was in the same position a year ago, if she ever forgot her time there. She said she was reminded of it everyday and the same thing is happening to me so there really is no point in forgetting. The only thing left to do is to move on and try to make do with what I have.
So here’s a 10-track mix, to remove you from whichever rut you are in. I can’t really say that it’s going to motivate you since most of the tracks are really somber but I hope it helps you to keep on keeping on.
If you’re itching for a little more upbeat mix of the same theme, go here.
Track listing:
01. Lykke Li - Time Flies
So, fingers crossed, my time is coming now
02. The Temper Trap - Soldier On
No one will know when seasons cease to change and..
How far we’ve gone, how far we’re going
03. Maverick Sabre - I Need
I need sunshine, I need angels, I need something good
04. Laura Marling - Failure
Don’t cry child, you’ve got so much more to live for
05. Sia - Breathe Me (Four Tet Remix)
Be my friend, hold me
Wrap me up, unfold me
I am small and needy
Warm me up and breathe me
06. Angus & Julia Stone - Chocolates & Cigarettes
One of these days I’ll grow old and I’ll grow brave
07. Slow Moving Millie - Please, Please, Please, Let Me Get What I Want
So for once in my life, let me get what I want
08. Slow Club - Never Look Back
But you had to go, but if you’d stayed,
I’d have come around to hold your hand
till the marching band had played.
09. Lykke Li - I Know Places
There is a road, there is a way, there is a place.
10. Michael Kiwanuka - Home Again
One day, I know, I’ll be strong again.

P.S. That was the last picture I took on my last weekend in LA. Double rainbows!
California by Delta Spirit
I want you to move to California for yourself
I want you to find whatever your heart needs

Just because I miss California so much. I just got back from my extended vacation and nothing heals a heartache better than a song. Spot the San Diego-based band on their website!
I’ve got to make you my woman. You’ve got to make me your man.
I went to see Temper Trap at The El Rey Theatre last night and PAPA opened up for them. They were such a lovely band to watch. Their music was highly captivating and they got the crowd dancing and pumped up in no time. I had a slight crush on the keyboardist and the bassist (he moves really well, see video below). PAPA is based in Los Angeles, CA and was spearhead by the Girls’ drummer, Darren Weiss. Listen to their EP, A Good Woman Is Hard To Find here.
Slow Club (Live At The Echoplex, Los Angeles)
March 11, 2012
The venue was big but the event was quite intimate. Two bands opened up for Slow Club. One was Bell Gardens which reminded me so much of Radiohead. TheĀ other was Signals who rocked the placed with his two instruments — a guitar and a laptop. Whilst Signals’ performance, Charles Watson (the other half of Slow Club) was right in front of him. I was able to greet him, he was nice. I was so starstrucked. Their set only lasted for an hour even though I wish it would go on longer. They mostly played songs from Paradise and a couple of songs from Yeah, So. They sounded so good live and the harmonies just warmed my heart up so much. My favorite moments were when the sang Never Look Back and Giving Up On Love (the crowd was dancing & singing out the lyrics). I recorded just one song and I’d to share them with you. Enjoy the lovely voices of Rebecca Taylor & Charles Watson!
