Beat The Heat!

Where I come from, summer is all year long. This year’s summer is probably one of the hottest and I’m sure I’m not the only one who’s incessantly annoyed by the heat combined with extreme humidity. To combat this sauna-like feeling, I made a mix I can cool off to and a fresh batch of margarita.

In Another Universe

Just a thought that always crossed my mind, “Maybe in another universe we actually worked out.” Sometimes, I let my imagination run these absurd ideas that there is a parallel universe where my what ifs and maybes are happening. Just thinking about those possibilities is good enough for me. If it’s not happening in reality, there is no harm that my imagination is doing all the work.

My friends suggested that I use an actual blacked out photo but I’m too shy to do that so I used a symbol that represents a certain reckless yet exhilarating moment. OMG! I am talking gibberish to my followers. This mix narrates what I felt and what could have been through various nu-disco, indie-pop and electronica tracks. It follows a progression of meeting someone, having a nice conversation, holding on to a moment and being optimistic on the possibilities. Please have a hefty serving from the excessive cheese that I am harboring.

Soldier On

This little mix has been a musical therapy for me these past few weeks. I’m slightly broken-hearted that my extended stay in a place that I really want to live in has come to an end. It sucks because I’ve grown accustomed to the wonderful things it offered. I was hoping this mix would help me bring myself back to the earthly (mundane?) life in the third-world. I asked my friend who was in the same position a year ago, if she ever forgot her time there. She said she was reminded of it everyday and the same thing is happening to me so there really is no point in forgetting. The only thing left to do is to move on and try to make do with what I have.

So here’s a 10-track mix, to remove you from whichever rut you are in. I can’t really say that it’s going to motivate you since most of the tracks are really somber but I hope it helps you to keep on keeping on.

Bittersweet Promises

Another heart break mix for my friend, Bubbles who requested a mix to nurse her heartache about losing someone. The situation was similar to Adele’s Someone Like You (“Never mind, I’ll find someone like you. Don’t forget me, I beg.”). The mix has a progression and it started with a guy breaking up with a girl. The mix conveys denial, sadness, acceptance and moving on.

Loveless (Valentine’s Day Mix)

Despite the gloomy cover and title, this mix is actually the opposite of it. I wanted to make a mix that celebrates singlehood but then it evolve into something unexpected which became a collection of cheerful heart break songs (apparently, that’s a thing now). You want to cry your heart out but you dance instead. Still, there are songs about finding love, expressing love, just everyone’s cup of tea when it comes to love.
