I hope you’re not tired because this was also featured in Gossip Girl during the actual Kiki de Montparnasse fashion show. Ollie Stone aka Hustle Roses has all the makings of a reincarnated 80s Madonna. This modern disco-pop songstress was once a part of an indie rock band called The Oohlas. She has now ventured into a more upbeat approach to her music and I can’t help but compare her to Kimbra (from Gotye’s Somebody That I Used To Know) or Feist’s earlier works. Just listen to her EP, Tequila Mockingbird at bandcamp to hear the similarity. One of her songs was written by Sia so that’s grand! Soldier On
This little mix has been a musical therapy for me these past few weeks. I’m slightly broken-hearted that my extended stay in a place that I really want to live in has come to an end. It sucks because I’ve grown accustomed to the wonderful things it offered. I was hoping this mix would help me bring myself back to the earthly (mundane?) life in the third-world. I asked my friend who was in the same position a year ago, if she ever forgot her time there. She said she was reminded of it everyday and the same thing is happening to me so there really is no point in forgetting. The only thing left to do is to move on and try to make do with what I have.
So here’s a 10-track mix, to remove you from whichever rut you are in. I can’t really say that it’s going to motivate you since most of the tracks are really somber but I hope it helps you to keep on keeping on.

Another heart break mix for my friend, Bubbles who requested a mix to nurse her heartache about losing someone. The situation was similar to Adele’s Someone Like You (“Never mind, I’ll find someone like you. Don’t forget me, I beg.”). The mix has a progression and it started with a guy breaking up with a girl. The mix conveys denial, sadness, acceptance and moving on.

A short mix to accompany us during this gloomy rainy season. Last year, I made a similar playlist entitled, Un Parapluie Et Une Chanson Pour Toi. The theme was more on falling in love and now I’m doing the opposite. I was inspired to make this playlist while reading Michel Faber’s Crimson Petal and the White. The weather was nice for lying in bed and listening to somber tunes so it seemed like a good idea to make a playlist that time.
